About

Sweitat Garden is a large pine forest on the outskirts of Jenin city in the north of Palestine. It is a hugely popular site for friends and families to come and walk and have picnics and barbecues during all seasons.

Over the past ten years, the forest has become increasingly run down…

The ground is carpeted with litter, old car tyres and broken glass. There are a few small bins available which are broken or overflowing with rubbish and waste collection is minimal.

None of the playground facilities are usable and currently constitute a grave threat to young people playing with or around them. Parents are constantly concerned about risk of injury to their children. Picnic tables are often used, with people bringing their own materials for barbecues, but the outdoor eating areas are poorly maintained and rubbish-strewn.

The large open air theatre, which once hosted circus, theatre and other events is derelict and empty, with no projects in place for the future.

Together with Playgrounds for Palestine UK, the Jenin Muncipality and through close collaboration with the community every step of the way, we are working to transform the site into a beautiful, sprawling, multi-functional space, designed to benefit the community as whole.
